Child Protection
1. Protecting Children on the Move
YHDO implements comprehensive child protection and humanitarian support activities for vulnerable children, especially those returning or deported through border areas such as Islam Qala (Herat).
1. Child Protection at Border (Islam Qala)
- Identification and screening of vulnerable children, including unaccompanied and separated children (UASC)
- Registration using UNICEF-approved tools
- Provision of psychosocial first aid
- Distribution of food, hygiene kits, clothing, and basic support
- Safe referral and transportation to Herat Transit Center (GTC)
2. Transit Center Services (Herat GTC)
- Safe reception, registration, and orientation for children
- Temporary shelter and safe accommodation (age and gender-sensitive)
- Medical screening and referral to health services
- Psychosocial support and mental health assessment
- Provision of essential items (food, clothing, hygiene kits)
3. Case Management & Family Reunification
- Individual case assessment and care planning
- Family tracing through community networks and authorities
- Safe reunification with families across provinces
- Accompanied transportation and formal handover with DoLSA
- Follow-up support after reintegration
4. Mental Health & Psychosocial Support (MHPSS)
- Structured group sessions for children and caregivers
- Individual counseling for high-risk cases
- Referral to specialized mental health services
5. MPHSS Response Services
- Identification and confidential support for survivors
- Psychosocial care and referral to health services
- Distribution of dignity kits
- Safe and ethical case management
6. Awareness & Prevention Activities
- Community awareness sessions and campaigns (target: 20,000 people)
- Topics include:
- Child protection and family unity
- Mental health and psychosocial well-being
- Explosive Ordnance Risk Education (EORE)
- Available services and referral pathways
- Use of radio, IEC materials, and face-to-face sessions
7. Capacity Building
- Training of social workers and child protection staff
- Capacity building on:
- Case management
- Valiance response
- Safeguarding and PSEA
- Ongoing coaching and mentoring
8. Community & System Strengthening
- Coordination with DoLSA, DoRR, UNICEF, and CPAN networks
- Strengthening local child protection systems
- Linking families to services such as education, health, and livelihoods

Overall Goal
To ensure that children on the move are protected from violence, abuse, and exploitation, and safely reunited with their families while accessing essential services.
Health Services
1. Prevention, Treatment and Rehabilitation, especially of People Use Drug.
YHDO with financial support from UNODC implements STFA project since Feb 2022, to improve quality of life, health, and livelihoods of people at risk or affected by drug use disorder.
Through Increasing access of drug users to evidence-based drug prevention and establishment and support of Drop in centers Projects Activites and Services
1.Support to 5 DTCs:
Providing of technical, financial, and logistic support through covering 70% of staff salaries and full running costs for Gardiz 30-bed , Ghazni 50-bed, Jaghori 20-bed male and Logar 30-bed male DTCs
2.Establishment and management of a New 20 bed female DTC in Ghazni
3.Full support for 2 DICs, Ghazni and Logar DIC
4.Establishment of four outreach teams in the southeast region.

2. Vulnerable Adolescents and Youth Empowerment by Access to Peer Education, PSS, and livelihoods services in Afghanistan.
To reduce youth vulnerability by strengthening community structures, increasing youth participation, and supporting the most disadvantaged young people YHDO implement AYE Project Activities
1.Identification and MHPSS support for AY
2.Healthy life style and menstrual hygiene management (MHM) trainings, and kit distribution
3.Providing life skill training in Literacy, English and Computer and itself Life Skill classes.
4.Providing livelihood trainings including freelance, Business development , Employability

3. Provision of emergency child protection services for children
YHDO, with Financial and technical support from UNICEF, is implementing a project to provide emergency child protection services for children affected by drought, economic crises, in the western region of the country. The project is designed to contribute to emergency protection concerns, and the risks of boys and girls are reduced through improved access to child protection services.
1)Establishment of Child Friendly Space, MHPSS, Education.
2)Establishment of Community Based Child Protection Committee (CBCPC)
3.)Identification, Management and referral of CP cases
4.)Provision of Explosive Ordinance Risk Education (EORE)
5).Capacity Building Training for CBCPCs members and Staff
