Afghanistan continues to be one of the toughest places in the world to be a child. Children regularly become victims of the armed conflict. Millions of children are forced to work, often in dangerous circumstances, to contribute to their families’ survival, shattering any opportunities for healthy development. Girls’ rights are incessantly violated by harmful traditional practices that lead to abuse and exploitation. Physical and humiliating punishment remains a common practice in schools and homes. Children with disabilities are even more vulnerable to physical, psychological violence and other forms of punishment.
